Cascading reels explained: round totals and multiplier resets

Read a cascade as a sequence of evaluations, not a row of new bets. Official rules and a fictional round show how to add awards and check multiplier resets.

Cascading reels remove eligible winning symbols, refill the gaps, and evaluate the changed grid within a continuing round. One paid round can contain several awards; the animation does not make each stage a new wager or a free-spins bonus. The game’s rules determine what disappears, when the sequence ends, and how multipliers apply.

The useful distinction is between a new symbol arrangement, an additional award, and a new paid transaction. This guide explains that distinction through official rules and an invented bookkeeping example, without gameplay testing or verification of a current U.S. operator configuration.

What happens when winning symbols disappear?

Follow the sequence: evaluate the symbols, record any qualifying award, remove the symbols covered by the removal rule, refill, and evaluate again. Another qualifying arrangement can continue the chain. A refill does not guarantee another award.

In the Gonzo’s Quest Megaways rules hosted by Loto-Québec, page 4, Avalanche Feature describes winning symbols exploding and replacement symbols arriving until there are no more wins. The Unbreakable Wilds section adds an important exception: participating wilds do not break. “Every winning symbol always disappears” would therefore overstate this document.

A cascade describes what happens after evaluation. It does not define which symbols qualify for an award. A game may require a path, adjacent-reel matches, connected clusters, or another arrangement. Read those conditions separately; a pay-anywhere count must not be treated as a connected cluster merely because symbols also tumble.

For the ordinary combination models, see paylines versus ways to win. Special-symbol exclusions belong to the wild, scatter, and trigger rules.

Does every cascade cost another bet?

Count transactions using the rules and recorded wager, not the number of times symbols fall.

Pragmatic Play’s Wild Beach Party overview, page 5, describes winning-symbol removal and refilling. Its Tumble Feature groups the tumbles and spin features resulting from a base spin before adding their wins to the balance. The continuation belongs to that described sequence; it is not automatically another separately purchased spin.

A separately selected paid feature or a new paid round needs its own cost record. This document comparison does not establish the charge shown by an unidentified game.

The Gonzo’s Quest Megaways PDF is a Québec-hosted rule sheet with no verified executable version; the Wild Beach Party PDF is a supplier overview. These documents do not establish current U.S. availability, state approval, or a casino’s active software build.

How should I add cascade awards and multipliers?

Here is a wholly fictional completed round with one $1.00 initial charge, three winning evaluations, and no other charges, prizes, or features. Its invented rule applies each stage’s multiplier to that stage’s pre-multiplier award. After stage 3, a refill produces no win and ends the round.

Stage Award × multiplier Added payout
1 $0.20 × 1 $0.20
2 $0.10 × 2 $0.20
3 $0.05 × 3 $0.15

The completed gross payout is $0.20 + $0.20 + $0.15 = $0.55. Subtract the single charge once: $0.55 − $1.00 = −$0.45. Three positive awards still leave this round with a negative net change.

Now suppose a running win meter shows $0.20, then $0.40, then $0.55. Those are cumulative totals in this example. Adding them would produce $1.15 and count earlier awards again. Use either the separate stage awards or the final total, not both.

These are not either cited game’s payout amounts or multiplier instructions. A real rule might multiply a cluster, a particular combination, or an accumulated sequence total. First establish that scope. The credits and total-bet guide helps distinguish units and complete cost.

No symbol probabilities were supplied here, so this sequence cannot establish RTP, cascade frequency, or a typical session result.

Why did the multiplier reset—or stay for the next spin?

Check three things: what increases the multiplier, which award it affects, and which event clears it.

The Gonzo’s Quest Megaways PDF, pages 2 and 4, gives a base-game sequence of 1×, 2×, 3×, then 5×. Page 4 explicitly resets that multiplier at the end of the spin. It is not an instruction to add one forever.

Wild Beach Party’s page 5 describes a different rule: a generated wild’s multiplier affects later winning clusters containing that wild. A wild’s reappearance is conditional, not guaranteed by another tumble. Do not turn a symbol-specific multiplier into a universal multiplier for every stage.

For a contrasting persistence boundary, Pragmatic Play’s Sugar Rush description, under What to expect, states that marked positions and multipliers persist between spins during the free-spins feature. That is a specified feature condition, not permission to carry every game’s multiplier into a new paid round.

Use the paytable reading checklist to record the exact title, mode, multiplier scope, reset condition, and completed payout. If any is missing, leave it unresolved. A continuing animation or a visible multiplier alone cannot tell you what the next round will return.
